High paying AI roles like Staff Engineer at Anthropic require years of background experience, deep knowledge of distributed systems, and multiple rounds of tough technical interviews. Toy repos with a few lines of code are fine for learning, but hiring teams look for real production experience, not just eight weekend projects.
