The matching date is a real coincidence, but the central claim that Facebook was a Pentagon project handed to Mark Zuckerberg is completely false. DARPA did officially cancel its LifeLog research project on February 4, 2004, following privacy backlash. That same day, Mark Zuckerberg launched "TheFacebook" from his Harvard dorm room. While internet theorists love connecting those two events, Facebook was developed independently by Zuckerberg and initially funded by dorm mates and private investors. There is no evidence DARPA created the platform, transferred code, or handed anything to Zuckerberg. It is a genuine calendar overlap spun into a conspiracy theory.
