The hobby graveyard is a classic experience for people with ADHD, often called interest cycling or hyperfixation. It comes down to dopamine regulation. ADHD brains have lower baseline dopamine levels, so a brand new interest triggers a big chemical reward while you learn every detail. Once the novelty wears off, dopamine drops sharply and your brain abruptly moves on to the next source of stimulation. While hyperfixation is community slang rather than an official DSM diagnostic term, psychologists widely recognize this novelty seeking pattern in ADHD.
