That stomach growl is caused by a physiological process called the Migrating Motor Complex, often described by gastroenterologists as your gut's internal housekeeping wave. Every 90 to 120 minutes when your digestive system is empty, these strong muscular contractions sweep through your stomach and small intestine to clear out food debris, dead cells, and bacteria. Because the tube is empty, gas and digestive fluids slosh around and echo, creating that rumbling sound. As soon as you eat, this cycle stops so your body can switch back to normal digestion.
