Rubies are made of corundum and have a melting point over 2,000°C (3,700°F). A heated wax tool won't even scratch them, let alone melt them. What you're seeing is a technique called cast-in-place lost-wax casting. He embeds the raw rubies into a wax ring model, shapes the wax, burns it out in a furnace, and pours molten silver into the mold. The rubies survive the metal heat, but the gem itself never melts.
