Checked reel ยท 27 Sept 2026
The video accurately describes the famous Oh-My-God particle detected in Utah in 1991, along with the Amaterasu particle spotted in 2021. All the mind-bending relativity math checks out. Packed into that single proton was about 50 joules of kinetic energy, equivalent to a fastpitch baseball. Moving at 99.99999999999999999999951% the speed of light, special relativity dictates that a photon would take 245,000 years to gain a 1 cm lead, and a 1.5 billion light-year journey would feel like under two days to the particle. Astrophysicists are still puzzled because extreme particles should lose energy interacting with cosmic background radiation. Tracing their paths back to empty cosmic voids like the Local Void only deepens the mystery. ๐
